Moving from TypePad to WordPress - 2

Scott Johnson mentioned my instructions for moving from TypePad to self-hosted WordPress. Thanks Scott. Here's the comment I added to his post:

Thanks for the link. Here are some additional comments for those who are thinking of moving:

In retrospect, I would have made life easier for myself if I’d stuck to the same permalink structure as TypePad. Fortunately, I didn’t have to change that many links but if you have lots of links, it would be a different story.

If you were using domain masking (ie your domain name doesn’t change when moving off TypePad, then life is even easier.) The TypePad implementation I moved was of the [username].typepad.com variety and I moved it to a new URL: http://www.brainstormsw.com/weblog/

I still run one blog on TypePad (teblog), but now have another on WordPress 1.5 and another - a kind of magazine - on WordPress 2.0 which will go live soon.

And, of course, the other thing to bear in mind with a move to self-hosted WordPress setup is that you either use a standard template or start hacking the css and/or php for design changes. I pretty much used a standard template on my first WordPress implementation but I am building the new one from scratch and it’s non-trivial.
